The building was built in 1876 according to the project of Jānis Fridrihs Baumanis (he designed a total of 160 buildings in Riga The most notable: the Saeima building, the Supreme Court building and Latvijas Banka on Pils Street). Until now, its facade has undergone multiple functional and visual transformations –  in 1928 a significant reconstruction was carried out – on the side of Krišjāņa Barona street, by creating showcase windows on the first floor and strengthening them accordingly with metal beam supports and bay covers. In the same way the showcase windows on the side of Merķela street were rebuilt from 1935 to 1936. Of the balconies on the street side, only those in the corner of the building have survived to this day.

The building is currently being reconstructed, so this is the best time to buy an apartment, because it is possible to realize individual wishes more profitably (for example – buy two adjacent apartments and combine them into one, personalize the design incl. choose flooring, lighting, bathroom tiles, etc.). Reconstruction envisages creating an environment that meets modern requirements, comfort and safety while preserving the charm of history. Massive covers between floors ensure stability and complete sound insulation, a new, modern elevator and an intercom with video function at the entrance have been installed. The building has a closed courtyard with a rest corner and a separate place for waste containers. The apartments facing the street are kept in a historical style, while the apartments facing the courtyard are designed in austere colors using high-quality materials. On the side of the yard, the facade is insulated and high-quality wooden windows with double-glazed glass (three layers of glass) are installed. All communications schemes will be issued to the owner of each apartment. A big advantage is that the building is located in the center of Riga. Nearby is Vērmanes garden, public transport stops both on Merķela and Krišjāņa Barona streets. It is also not far from the central station of the combined railway and Rail Baltica.
